Boston, MA – In a groundbreaking announcement, Senator Adam Gomez (D-Springfield) joined hands with the Healey-Driscoll administration to unveil a substantial financial injection of $791,694 into Springfield Technical Community College (STCC). The funding, allocated through Fair Share funds as part of the FY24 budget in line item 1596-2417, marks a critical step forward in advancing STCC’s initiatives in decarbonization, addressing deferred maintenance, and fortifying climate resilience.

Senator Adam Gomez, a stalwart advocate for combating climate change and championing environmental justice communities, expressed his commitment to securing resources for the district and the Commonwealth. He emphasized the strategic importance of this funding, stating, “The securement of this grant for STCC falls in line with two of my legislative priorities next year that ensure the state is able to meet net zero carbon goals as set forth in the Climate Change Road Map Act of 2021.”

STCC President John B. Cook acknowledged the unwavering support from the regional legislative delegation, emphasizing the critical role it plays in bolstering public higher education. President Cook commented, “To Senator Gomez, Representative Williams, and all of our delegation, we are thankful knowing these funds help the college with decarbonization and energy efficiency requirements that carry a high cost.”

The financial injection into STCC comes at a crucial time for the institution, aligning with its steadfast commitment to sustainable practices and environmental responsibility. Beyond advancing decarbonization efforts, the funds will be instrumental in addressing deferred maintenance issues, ensuring the longevity and efficiency of the college’s infrastructure, and enhancing overall climate resilience.

This significant investment resonates with STCC’s broader vision for environmental stewardship and innovation. Dr. Jane Green, Director of Sustainability at STCC, highlighted the transformative potential of the funds, saying, “These resources will empower us to implement cutting-edge technologies and strategies to reduce our carbon footprint, contributing to the broader goals outlined in the Climate Change Road Map Act.”
