Tony Malone - Alumni Hall of Fame Honoree - BGC Family Center

SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Boys & Girls Club Family Center is deeply saddened to report the loss of our own legend, Philip “Tony” Malone. Tony passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the age of 55. The Boys & Girls Club Family Center is set to host a Memorial for Tony on Saturday, April 16, 2022, between the hours of 1:00pm – 3:00pm.

Malone grew up in the Family Center as a kid attending the Club in the 1970’s. From Club kid, to Counselor and coach, Mr. Malone took over as the Activities Director in the 1980’s. For over four decades, Tony Malone helped raise thousands of youth that walked through the Family Center doors. Along with his duties as the Activities Director at the Family Center, Malone was also very active in the city of Springfield with youth Basketball. From coaching to refereeing games to running summer leagues. Upon his passing, Tony was the Program Director for the Family Center.

“The loss of Tony Malone is devastating, not only for the Family Center, but for the city of Springfield as well,” Executive Director, Keshawn Dodds states. “I’ve known Malone since I was seven years old. This is like losing a father figure and also someone who cared deeply for the success of our youth. We will honor his legacy the best way we can by making sure we take care of the kids in our communities.”

On Saturday, April 16, 2022, between the hours of 1:00pm – 3:00pm, the Boys & Girls Club Family Center will be holding a Memorial for Philip “Tony” Malone in the Parking Lot of the Boys & Girls Club Family Center, located at 100 Acorn Street, Springfield, MA 01109. The announcement is open to the public. Dodds said he strongly encourages community members to come out for this sendoff of this amazing community icon.
