(SPRINGFIELD) Lifelong Springfield resident and father of 4, Lavar Click-Bruce has officially announced that he is running to be the next Ward 5 Springfield City Councilor this afternoon.
Currently a Mayoral Aide to Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, Click-Bruce knows the needs of the City and the Ward intimately. Before becoming an essential part of the Mayor’s Office, Lavar was the administrative aide to the Springfield City Council where he was involved in all functions of the Council. Previous to his municipal experience at both the Mayoral and Council level, Click-Bruce served as the Executive Director of the Dunbar Community Center where he led on averting foreclosure of the property saving vital programs for youth and the community.
Click-Bruce continues his strong passion for working with Springfield’s youth as the Head Boys Basketball Coach of his alma mater High School of Commerce.
“This is a perfect opportunity for me to continue to serve the City and Community I love so deeply. When you combine my career in youth development, my experience as the aide to the Council and my current position as an aide to the Mayor, of which I have learned the in’s and out’s of municipal government firsthand, it makes me uniquely qualified to serve on the Council. In addition, I’m a proud product of the Springfield Public Schools and now am a father of children in our public schools. This means I have an inherent, strong and vested interest in the future of our City. I look forward to speaking to the residents and voters of Ward 5 to hear directly from them about the needs of our community and city as a whole.” stated Click-Bruce
Upon the announcement of former Ward 5 City Councilor Marcus Williams resignation, several names of potential candidates were bandied about. One of those names was current Springfield School Committee Member LaTonia Monroe Naylor, a very well respected community leader. Ultimately, Monroe-Naylor decided against running and instead has thrown her support behind Click-Bruce.
“I took a hard look at the opportunity but decided against it and one of the factors was that Lavar was going to run. Lavar is just such a great person, father, community member and leader. I have the utmost faith in him to represent Ward 5 on the City Council with integrity, dedication, transparency and a vision for our City that I share as well. I fully support Lavar.” stated Monroe Naylor.
“LaTonia’s support means the world to me. She’s an incredible leader and an asset to our schools, city and entire community. I’m proud to have her in my corner as I announce this bid!” exclaimed Click-Bruce.
