The National Reparations Institute is set to host its fourth annual National N’Daba (Great Gathering) Reparations Summit on November 1-2, 2024, at the Atlanta University Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Bringing together over 100 Black students and youth leaders, this year’s summit will advance the conversation on reparations and chart actionable steps toward justice and equality for Black Americans.
The summit arrives at a pivotal moment in history, as national attention has increasingly turned toward the complex legacy of systemic inequities faced by Black Americans. With the lingering effects of past injustices continuing to impact Black communities today, this gathering aims to build a robust reparations model and declaration, crafted and led by youth advocates in collaboration with a team of experienced committee members.
This year’s N’Daba will provide participants with essential tools and strategies to move the reparations movement forward in five key areas:
- Unity and Co-Leadership: Attendees will engage in co-leadership practices within the existing reparations movement, promoting functional unity across diverse groups.
- Diverse Perspectives: A wide array of Black students, youth, and scholars representing various theological, political, and philosophical perspectives will be present, enriching the discussion with a broad spectrum of ideologies.
- Collective Culture Model: The summit will introduce the “Collective Culture Model,” a structured approach focused on achieving complete reparations. Committees will tackle essential topics, including education, economics, state and land acquisition, health, and public policy.
- Local Organizing Committees: The summit will establish local committees committed to advancing reparations efforts at the community level, fostering localized support for the national movement.
- Training on Sustainability and Wellness: To ensure the resilience of organizers, training on wellness practices for trauma-based work will be provided, empowering attendees to lead sustainably.
