BOSTON- State Senator Adam Gomez (D-Springfield) took to Boston on Tuesday to gavel the third public hearing for the Joint Committee on Cannabis Policy, which heard a mix of bills related to general cannabis legislation. Among the bills heard were those enabling cannabis use by first responders, the ability to unionize for cannabis industry employees, and allowing students access to prescription cannabis.

“For the Commonwealth, the cannabis industry is a fairly new concept,” said Senate Chair of the Joint Committee Adam Gomez. “With the introduction of the cannabis industry came a variety of issue areas Massachusetts residents are concerned about. These public hearings are important so we as legislators can hear firsthand about the impact that these issues have on real individuals every day and find how we might be able to adjust the law to better serve our constituents.”

Tuesday’s hearing was the first chaired by Senator Gomez since his return following a kidney transplant in May. Having previously served as Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Children, Families, and Persons with Disabilities, this is Senator Gomez’s first session chairing the Joint Committee on Cannabis Policy.

Joint committees have until the first Wednesday in February to report on the bills assigned to them.
