“He is a Diplomatic Threat”: Kenyans in Diaspora Say Ahead of William Ruto’s Tour of the US and UK

Kenyans in the diaspora have expressed reservations about Deputy President William Ruto’s 10-day visit to the US and UK.

Through a statement, Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA) said Kenyans abroad were apprehensive about what the deputy president represents as a leader

“It has come to our attention that the Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto is embarking on a 10–day visit to the US and the UK, we bid him a warm welcome but are apprehensive about what he represents as a leader,” reads the statement by KDA Global Chairperson Dr. Shem Ochuodho.

Dr. Ochuodho termed Ruto as a ‘diplomatic threat’, citing recent and past instances where the deputy president ignited diplomatic tensions with other nations.

“He is a diplomatic threat to the relations between Kenya and the United States and the international community at large. In the recent past, he almost caused a diplomatic row between Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo and the United Kingdom after publicly insulting the two countries,” Ochuodho noted.

He also cited a 2014 incident when former US President Barack Obama visited Kenya, and Ruto allegedly expressed contempt for the POTUS.

“…Fortunately the situation was saved by the diplomatic mien of President Uhuru Kenyatta,” he added.

The letter further points out that Ruto is a person of interest at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in relation to crimes against humanity, adding that his close ties to suspected Turkish terrorist Haroun Aydin make him a security threat.

“His [Ruto] insatiable appetite for public funds has almost brought Kenya’s economy to its knees. He is also known for sabotaging the government’s war on corruption,” the statement adds.
